Your 3rd letter from a far away fairy

Dear friend,

January often means change for many of us. I used to deliberately plan for it and commit to it at the start of the year. But now I avoid thinking about change in January. Too many winters taught me that genuine, true change cannot be planned or scheduled. Change is a part of the river that is life. It comes as unpredictable, innocent and natural as the leaves that fall in a stream. The best way to invite change is to welcome it.

It’s a funny thing, this change: the kind I deeply, passionately want to welcome tends to come only when my heart is full of love. Trivial change such as a better figure or a wish for professional discipline comes naturally if I can freely express my nature of being a fairy. This is because no real change is trivial. A better figure covers my deep wish for energy, dance and joy. My wish for professional discipline stands for the courage to build my true dreams. All these longings hide valuable information about myself.

So January is devoted to a quiet contemplation of my fairy soul. I spend countless hours looking at the shape and strength of my wings. I caress the stardust that clings to my body. Winter’s quiet darkness encourages my introspection. Sometimes guilt and shame creeps in, and I welcome them. They are wonderful reminders that I need myself more than I allow myself to have me. So I let them come, and ask them for their wisdom. And then I close my eyes and let my wings carry me as they wish. I dance, I give myself grace, and I indulge in my senses. Or at least I try – this is my January resolution.

My friend, what are your January rituals? Most importantly, what are your thoughts at the start of the year? I long to learn from your perspective, for I have ample theories about the magic of life. This includes the magic in you. Can you feel it pulsating within you, do you give it space, do you welcome it or do you try to deny it?

Your magical fairy friend,

Laura
